Six years on – the NDIS is transforming lives
In just six years Every Australian Counts supporters have made the NDIS real – transforming it from a vision that united Australians in every corner of the country to a scheme that is now rolling out in every state and territory.
From a broken, fragmented and unfair system to a new scheme that places people first – giving people with disability choice and control over the supports they need based on their plans and goals for their own lives.
In six years the NDIS:
- Has increased the amount of funding for disability support – with an overall target of around $22 billion when the scheme is fully rolled out.
- Successfully transitioned across nine trial sites – on time and on budget over three years.
- Has started rolling out in every state and territory – with almost half a million people with disability expected to be in the scheme by 2019.
There’s still work to do to make the NDIS the best it can be.
However, as Every Australian Counts Campaign Director John Della Bosca said recently, the NDIS is perhaps the biggest transformation seen in Australia since the introduction of Medicare.
The NDIS is transforming lives – something all Australians can celebrate.
To mark the six year anniversary, here are just some of the inspirational stories people have shared with us. There are thousands more right across Australia.
