Hi, my name is Jacquie Petrusma, the Tasmanian Minister for Human Services.

Today I am delighted to announce that the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and the Premier for Tasmania, Will Hodgman, have signed the bilateral agreement for the full rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme here in Tasmania.

I’m very proud to be part of the Hodgman Liberal Government in delivering on our commitment to implement the full rollout of the NDIS for the people of Tasmania.

The full rollout of the NDIS has been designed to build on the tremendous success of the Tasmanian trial over the last few years.

From the 1st of July 2016 eligible people with disability in Tasmania will start entering the NDIS in stages, which will be completed by the 1st of July, 2019, when it is estimated that around 10,600 Tasmanians will have entered the scheme since it started in 2013.

The NDIS will provide individuals and their families with the choice and control around the disability support they need so they can live the live they want and achieve their goals.

Today is certainly an historic day for Tasmanians with disability, their families and their carers, service providers and disability support workers, as well as the Every Australian counts campaign.

It is the next step in an important journey for the people of Tasmania and I look forward to continuing that journey with you.
