Part two: Calling on supporters to be Rally Builders, and help spread the word about the national NDIS rallies on 30 April.

National ‘Make It Real’ rallies.
Rally events in six capital cities around the country – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart and Perth – estimated between 15,000-20,000 attendees.
9 May
Federal Budget day.
The Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan announces $1 billion over four years to kick start the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Launch of ‘Lock in the NDIS’ COAG action.
7,000+ supporters enter personal messages in a campaign message-book. Message-book delivered to the state and territory leaders at the COAG meeting.
27 July
Campaign win!
COAG update: Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the leaders of most States and Territories have reached an agreement on launching the NDIS.
Victorian Premier Ted Ballieu and NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell committed money towards NDIS launch sites meaning that the scheme will kick off around the country, in the ACT, NSW, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.
5 September
Launch of DisabiliTEA event registrations.
Masterchef’s Julia Taylor calls supporters to action and prepares her sister Katie’s favourite cake recipe.
26 October
DisabiliTEA 2012.
1,600+ community events held around the nation.
15 November
Launch of the ‘Clock is Ticking’ MP action – calling on supporters to email and phone their local Federal MPs, asking them to put the NDIS front and centre of the debate in Canberra, and make sure the Federal Government and states come to an agreement on implementing and funding the NDIS.
Supporters send 1,600 emails and make 550 phone calls to every Federal MP in Australia.
30 November
Campaign win!
Prime Minister Julia Gillard introduces the legislation to establish the NDIS into Parliament in what she described as one of her proudest moments in public life.
7 December
NSW locks in the NDIS.
NSW becomes the first state to introduce the National Disability Insurance Scheme in full after Prime Minister Julia Gillard and NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell announced a funding agreement for the scheme.
21 December
Launch of ‘Your Voice Counts’ action – calling on supporter to make a submission to the Senate Committee Inquiry into the laws that will establish the NDIS (with submissions closing on January
25, 2013).

20th anniversary of Australia’s Disability Discrimination law.
21 March
The National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill passes both houses of Parliament and will soon become law.
The federal parliament unanimously demonstrated their commitment to the NDIS.
18 April
South Australian Government agrees to ensure full implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme from 2018.
30 April
The time has come for the NDIS – Kurt Fearnley video launch.
Athlete Kurt Fearnley gave a riveting Australia Day address this year, where he called for urgent action on the NDIS.
2 May
Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Leader of the Opposition Tony Abbott make good on their promises to support the National Disability Insurance Scheme, through a 0.5% rise in the Medicare levy.
4 May
Premier Denis Napthine announces he has come to an agreement with the Federal Government to the full implementation of National Disability Insurance Scheme in Victoria.
9 May
Premier Campbell Newman signs an agreement with the Federal Government to lock in the NDIS in Queensland.
16 May
Federal Parliament passes legislation that will deliver secure, ongoing funding for the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
AndPrime Minister Julia Gillard and leader of the Opposition Tony Abbot have restated their pledge to fully implement the scheme.
This legislation means that the NDIS will become a reality. It’s a moment in history we can all be proud of.
29 June
Launch of the Every Australian Counts election campaign – The Promise (our leaders cannot walk away from their promise to implement the NDIS in full).
5 August
Premier Colin Barnett reaches an agreement with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to bring the National Disability Insurance Scheme to Western Australia.
All states and territories now signed up to the NDIS.
6 August
Launch of the EAC Election Champions – calling on supporters to make sure every candidate in every party supports the NDIS. Our political leaders cannot walk away from their promise.
12 August
Launch of Every Australian Counts Day event registrations (previously known as DisabiliTEA).
Event to be held on 6 September, the day prior to Federal Election polling day.
6 September
National Every Australian Counts Day events held across the nation.
7 September
Federal Election 2013 polling day.
8 September
New government elected – Tony Abbott’s Coalition Government victorious in the election.
