Regional NSW to benefit from rollout of NDIS

SOME of the biggest winners under the National Disability Insurance Scheme will be those in regional parts of NSW.
When the scheme becomes fully operational in July 2019, it is expected 460,000 people will have an NDIS funding package, many of whom are based in regional areas.

According to the NDIS, the number of people with a disability currently receiving funding support will grow from 78,000 this year to 142,000 in 2019, while the level of annual expenditure in NSW is estimated to grow from $3.4 billion to $6.8 billion.

After feedback received when travelling to regional areas, last week NSW Disability Minister John Ajaka announced $4 million in funding for disability providers in regional and remote NSW to help them prepare for the NDIS.

The NSW Government’s Transition Assistance Program will offer grants of up to $35,000 to help providers with less than $3 million in annual turnover get ready including by updating business plans or purchasing software.
