NSW budget 2015: NDIS lifts disability spending

Funding for people with disabilities in NSW will account for more than half of the total social security and welfare spend as the state ushers in the full rollout of the national disability insurance scheme.

NDIS funding will increase 6.7 per cent and by 2018 the state will spend $3.1bn a year on the full scheme, together with $3.3bn from the commonwealth.

The government has offered a further $28m to continue the redevelopment of supported accommodation options in the state as it forges ahead with the closure of large residential institutions in the Hunter Region.
