NDIS rollout delayed in WA as trials extended by a year

The rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has been delayed for a year in Western Australia to allow a comparative trial of a State Government-run system to be extended.

The Federal Government has denied the delay was down to an inability of WA and the Commonwealth to agree to a single scheme, despite comments from the WA Disability Services Minister indicating the state wanted to ultimately wrest control of the program from the Commonwealth.

Western Australia has had two schemes running concurrently, the Commonwealth’s NDIS in the Perth Hills and the state’s My Way trial in the South West and Cockburn and Kwinana, in Perth’s south
