IT glitch pushes NDIS providers to financial brink

Desperate Hunter-based National Disability Insurance Scheme service providers that have not been paid for more than a month are preparing a class action against the Federal Government.

An IT glitch with the new NDIS portal, which providers are paid through, has not functioned properly since July, leaving some smaller operators on the brink of bankruptcy.

“There are some that have had to seek overdraft extensions so they can pay their staff and hopefully stay afloat until the problem is fixed,” Chantelle Robards, who provides a service directory that many providers access, said.

There are also concerns the disruption to payments could threaten the quality of service and care that is delivered.

Ms Robards said she had heard of about 20 Hunter providers that had not been paid.
