Extended Families Australia offering respite to families of children with disabilities
FAMILIES of young children and teens with disabilities are receiving extended support thanks to a trial program under way in Hume and Moreland.
Extended Families Australia, a not-for-profit organisation operating across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, recently received money to deliver extra programs and respite support to children aged 8-17 and their families.
Development project worker and family and volunteer co-ordinator Laura Heffernan said it was keen to pilot programs ahead of the National Disability Insurance Scheme rollout, scheduled for Hume and Moreland from March 2018.
She said programs focused on inclusion and supporting children with disabilities to access mainstream activities, with a strong response received.
