Disabled students forced into home education by bullies, says Disability Education Lobby

MANY students with disabilities are being home schooled because of bullying in schools, an advocate group says.

Tasmanian Disability Education Lobby founder Kristen Desmond says parents are taking their children out of mainstream schools because of a lack of action in the education system against persistent bullying or inappropriate care.

“Far too many students living with disability are the subject of bullying, and parents feel the schools are doing little to address the issue,” Ms Desmond said.

“In many cases, students living with disability who are subjected to student bullying or inappropriate teaching practices will be withdrawn from mainstream school and either home schooled or enrolled in distance education.”
