Amaze launches resource to help parents navigate NDIS

A NEW online tool aims to help parents and carers prepare for the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Funded by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and developed by Amaze, the peak body for people on the autism spectrum, the NDIS Readiness Resource gives participants a chance to work through a checklist, identify and prioritise needs, and create goals.

Amaze community engagement manager Deirdre Hardy said when people joined the NDIS they met with a planner to set goals, and according to those goals and support needs, would be allocated a certain amount of money.

“What our community has said to us is they have felt unsure about how to approach the meeting with the planner; some are worried if they don’t say the right thing they’re scared their children will miss out,” Ms Hardy said.
