Kristen Desmond from the Tasmanian Disability Education Reform Lobby said families could be left out-of-pocket if they cannot access the current taxi subsidy.

“We’re not saying that anyone deserves free transport, what we’re saying is they shouldn’t be any worse off than they are now,” she told Leon Compton on 936 ABC Hobart.

The taxi subsidy provides people with disabilities with a smartcard which helps them pay for transport, and costs the Government about $4.5 million a year.
