Earlier this year we asked people to share their housing frustrations, their housing dreams and their housing solutions. 650 people answered the call, as did housing organisations. Here’s our second instalment in what the housing sector sees as the solution to disability housing.
Earlier this year the national advocacy organisation People With Disability Australia convened a Citizens’ Jury of people in the NDIS trial sites to hear first hand from those experiencing the roll out of the NDIS. The results show strongly that the scheme is working – finally giving people with disability a say in their own futures and supporting them to live their lives how they choose. The jury also offers a host of recommendations on how to make the NDIS even better.
There are 2.7 million Australians providing care for one or more family members or friends, including people with disability – navigating their way through what can be a confusing and time consuming labyrinth of government departments.

Not-for-profit disability service provider Northcott has launched a new subsidiary named Northcott Innovation. Described as a “radical new organisation,” the subsidiary will be dedicated to co-creating creative and unexpected solutions to support people with disability.
