The NDIS has Changed: Find Out What it Means to You
Firstly, thank you to everyone who attended our recent Every Australian Counts Community Forum. During the forum, Mitchell Skipsey and Sheetal Balakrishnan from the Justice Equity Centre discussed the changes to the NDIS that have now become law.
While technical issues prevented a video recording, we are pleased to share the audio recording with subtitles and the presentation slides.
NDIS Changes – What You Need to Know
On 3 October 2024, the NDIS introduced key changes to how you can use your funding. These changes impact NDIS supports, replacements, funding periods, and debt recovery. Here’s a brief overview:
NDIS Supports: Funding can only be used for approved NDIS supports. There are new lists of allowed and banned items.
Replacements: You may request a replacement for items on the banned list, but certain conditions apply.
Funding Periods: Plans will be capped at 12 months for now, with the option for longer plans in the future.
Debts: If banned items are purchased, the NDIA may ask you to repay funds, but there are special rules for the first 12 months.
