The purpose of this guide is to help content contributors write opinion pieces for the Every Australian Counts (EAC) website. Our goal is to ensure articles are clear, accessible, and aligned with EAC’s values and advocacy for the NDIS.

Understanding EAC’s Voice and Purpose

EAC is a grassroots campaign that fights for the rights of people with disability and the protection of the NDIS. Our content should:

  • Empower and inform readers about disability rights and NDIS issues.
  • Encourage action from the disability community and supporters.
  • Hold decision-makers accountable for changes that impact people with disability.

Tone: Clear, engaging, and action-oriented
Style: Plain English, accessible, and inclusive
Stance: Supportive, campaign-focused, and critical where needed

 

What Makes a Strong Opinion Piece?

A good opinion piece for EAC:

  • Has a clear argument – Make your main point early and stick to it.
  • Is backed by evidence – Use facts, lived experience, or expert opinions, including links to your evidence where possible
  • Speaks to the EAC audience – People with disability, families, supporters, and allies.
  • Is solutions-focused – Highlight ways to create change or take action.

Avoid:

  • Overly complex language or jargon
  • Personal attacks or inflammatory language
  • Unverified claims or misinformation

How to Pitch Your Idea

Before writing your opinion piece, please send us:

  1. An example of something you have written previously.
  2. A short description of what you are proposing to write for us.

If your idea is chosen, we will pay you $250 to write the full piece.
