NSW locks in the NDIS
A day to remember
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
Ageing and Disability Minister Andrew Constance and I were delighted to join with the Prime Minister to announce New South Wales as the first Australian State to sign on to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
This landmark agreement will empower and support people with disabilities their families and carers across NSW. It’s an issue that is above politics and deserves the bipartisan support it has achieved.
It’ll mean that from 2016 the Commonwealth and NSW Governments will start to roll out the full National Disability Insurance Scheme across NSW.
From 2018 that means $6.4 billion in disability support being spent each year. It is anticipated that that NDIS will assist more than 140,000 people with a disability living in NSW to lead a dignified, decent and productive life.
This terrific outcome continues the NSW Liberals and National Government’s record of reform in social services. Importantly this reform could not have been achieved without the support and advocacy of so many people in the community and I sincerely thank them for their efforts, in particular the Every Australian Counts organisation.

Thats fantastic and a great start , from little things big things grow!
Now we just have to ensure Campbell Newman comes to the party!
Well done Andrew – we would like to congratulate you on a great achievement following much hard work and personal input on your part. We appreciate your efforts and look forward to the benefits of this new scheme being passed on to the people who desparately need fair and equitable support to simply survive on a daily basis, and then hopefully, experience some dignity, the best health and the greatest happiness that they are able to achieve. You probably know each and every disabled person in your electorate – listened to their grumps and groans – you have been very patient and we thank you especially for listening to our grumps and groans. Again, well done and thank you.
Congratulations. Finally party politics is put aside for the good of the nation.
Well done NSW!!! The first to step up – come on the rest of you…
Good luck with the roll out,
Pauline
Dear Premier O’Farrell and Mr Constance,
Congratulations on recognising the importance of the NDIS for families in NSW. Thank you for working with the Federal Government to make the NDIS a reality for us. You have demonstrated to all Australians that both major political parties can indeed negotiate difficult and complex issues when there is a clear and achievable benefit to the whole community. The NDIS has the potential to transform not just the lives of families whose members have disabilities, but of all families in Australia. The NDIS can give all families certainty that should someone be born with or acquire a disability, there will be an adequate system of equipment and personal support provision to ensure that person can participate as fully as possible in family and community life.
Well done the NSW government. Here’s hoping that Campbell Newman and the QLD government will follow siit
Wonderful news!! Well done to both governments and to all the people who fought so hard for so long to achieve this fantastic result! Let’s hope it won’t be too long now before ALL States come on board and pull in the same direction as NSW.
Best news I never have for my life because people with a disability living in NSW lead a dignified and decent life. We are all same……
Thanks Barry
FANTASTIC news, lets hope it’s not too long before the rest of the States follow suit.
EVERYBODY,EVERYWHERE in Australia who has a disABILITY has a God given right to lead a decent, dignified and productive life, and the N.D.I.S.will help to evolve this.
This reform goes well beyond politics and is DECADES overdue!
Well done the organisers and participants in Every Australian Counts for getting NSW across the line.As a parent of an adult young son with a severe physical and speech disability we know how much this is needed. Just one question can someone tell me how much of the 6.3 billion will be new money? well done again cheers Pam
