Geelong residents invited to show their support for the NDIS …

Proud NDIS supporters Karingal and the City of Greater Geelong are inviting Geelong residents to celebrate International Day of People with Disability on this Saturday December 3 with a free community event at The Fort at Stead Park in Corio.

A free barbeque will be served by Corio Norlane Lions Club members in the car-park from 12 o’clock.

As part of the celebration, an aerial photo from a helicopter will be taken of supporters wearing the red Every Australian Counts tee shirts standing in the shape of ‘NDIS’ at 12.30pm.

Red campaign t-shirts will be given out on the day but people are also asked to wear their own red t-shirts too.

Following the photo shoot, the stage will be set for an afternoon of entertainment suitable for all ages and abilities.

The highlight will be the launch of campaign song ‘Get It There,’ by Shaun Brown, lead singer of Australian band Dirty York.

Other great musical entertainment will be presented throughout the afternoon and speakers will explain the importance of the Every Australian Counts Campaign for the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Geelong has been at the heart of much of the campaign activity throughout the year and this event is a great opportunity for the Geelong community to again come out and show its very strong support for a NDIS.

Many Geelong residents, disability service providers and leading regional organisations such as the City of Greater Geelong, the G21 Geelong Regional Alliance, Deakin University and the Colac Otway Shire Council have all backed the NDIS during the course of 2011.

A big thank you to MatchWorks, Karingal and the City of Greater Geelong for supporting for this important community event.
